Itching to get on the next flight out of Singapore? Here are the cheapest flights that we've found to popular travel destinations like Bangkok, Tokyo, Taipei and Seoul.

From Japan to Taiwan, Singaporeans are dying to scratch their wanderlust itch. But because travel is in such high demand right now, airlines have been sneakily increasing the prices of airfares to popular travel destinations.

Take Korea for instance - according to CNA, one-way air tickets from Singapore to South Korea have increased by 78% during the December holiday, as compared to the same period pre-pandemic.

Despite the price hike (aka travel inflation), it seems that this has not dampened the need for a getaway as there is still an uptick in airfare bookings.

Luckily for you, we're all about saving money and we always prefer to avoid paying exorbitant prices for a getaway.

With that said, we've scoured the Internet to help you discover the cheapest flights out of Singapore to several popular travel destinations.

Important note: Prices below are based on a 7-day or longer holiday. They are for direct return flights with no layovers and may not include check-in baggage and in-flight meals. Prices are accurate as of 15 March 2023. They may differ when booking your flight. Prices were sourced on Skyscanner.

Both ZIPAIR and Scoot are budget airlines, with ZIPAIR being a wholly-owned subsidiary of Japan Airlines.

Airfares in May 2023 and July to August 2023 are pretty consistent, with travel in April 2023 being the most expensive, especially since it's cherry blossoms season.

Phuket is another popular destination in Thailand, mainly for its scenic beaches and array of watersports available.

A flight to Phuket will set you back from S$140 to S$179, depending on the month that you travel. Since it's less than two hours away from Singapore, your best and cheapest option would be to travel via budget airlines like Scoot or Air Asia.

If you are planning to do watersports while in Phuket, do remember to get a travel insurance that offers coverage for watersports. Besides offering peace of mind, it ensures you won't have to pay out of your own pocket should an unfortunate incident occur.

Taiwan has finally opened its border for travel and we couldn't be happier. However, since it's such a popular destination, expect to pay slightly more for your airfare as compared to other countries on our list.

June 2023 is obviously the peak travel period, so expect to pay around S$300, plus or minus, for a return trip to Taipei. April 2023 is also surprisingly expensive, which will set you back close to S$400. If you are looking for a cheaper flight, consider travelling in July 2023 or August 2023.

Annyeong haseyo! South Korea finally opened its borders earlier this month in October, and many of our colleagues have chosen Seoul as their next vacay destination - proving that its allure has not died.

For the cheapest flight to Seoul, do consider travelling in April 2023 or July 2023. Considering its popularity, you might want to book your flights soon as prices may raise further in the near future.

Looking for a credit card for spending while in Seoul? Consider the UOB PRVI Miles American Express Card. You'll stand to earn 2.4 miles per dollar (mpd) for overseas spending and 6 mpd if you book your flight and accommodation with it. It also offers complimentary travel insurance of up to S$500,000, which is really the cherry on the cake.

How can I get the cheapest flights from Singapore?

To find the cheapest flights from Singapore, we recommend you do your due diligence by comparing airfares and prices on travel aggregators such as Skyscanner or Kayak.

Do also take note of the peak and off-peak periods for travel. The obvious peak periods include the school holiday period June and cheery blossom season (for certain countries) in April.

If you are planning to travel to a South-East Asian country, the off-peak period is usually around November as it is between the monsoon season.

Last but not least, do remember to make use of any existing miles you have accumulated to before they expire. Now that travel is back on in full swing, many airlines may not be open to extending the validity of your existing miles. Singapore Airlines is one example.

Which airline is the cheapest?

That really depends on the country you are travelling to as well as any existing promotions that airlines are offering.

Take Seoul for instance, the cheapest flight to Seoul in April is T'way Air, while for other months, budget airlines like Scoot, offer the cheapest flight. Do remember to compare prices using a travel aggregator before making your booking to ensure the cheapest flight. But in general, budget airlines should offer the best bang for your buck.

However, do note that the cheapest doesn't always necessarily mean the best. Budget airlines may experience flight delays and other complications which could damper your holiday experience.

Certain amenities and niceties that premium airlines offer can't be measured with dollars and cents either. With that said, remember to weigh out your expectations and budget before deciding on which airline to travel on.

May your air be clear, the flight be smooth, the plane be safe, and the sky be blue

Travel revenge is very much a real thing and after 2 years of being grounded, it's no surprise that everyone's looking forward to finally boarding a plane for some well-deserved R & R.

Just remember to take the necessary precautions, such as purchasing a COVID-19 travel insurance plan for any setbacks you might encounter overseas. Although COVID-19 might just be an afterthought, it's still better to be safe than sorry.
