Get more out of your monthly expenses by paying your utility bills with these cashback and rewards credit cards.
If you own a home in Singapore, you may have observed a slight uptick in your utility bills during the last quarter. Notably, electricity tariffs have seen a 5% increase from in Q1 2024 to 32.58 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) after GST, due to higher energy costs.
For homeowners seeking ways to mitigate these rising costs, there are limited options beyond comparing and switching to different electricity providers.
Fortunately, there is a silver lining—certain credit cards offer the opportunity to earn cashback and rebates on your utility bills, providing a small but valuable way to offset these increases.
Without further ado, here are the best credit cards for paying your utility bills in Singapore.

Paying your bills with a credit card eliminates the need to visit payment centres physically. You can easily settle your bills through the credit card's online portal, even while on the move, ensuring you avoid late payment fees. Additionally, using a credit card can save you from incurring extra interest charges. Numerous online and offline merchants accept credit card payments, including the option to pay your bills conveniently.
Contrary to the misconception that credit cards lead to debt, they can actually serve as efficient budgeting tools when used wisely. Each credit card transaction can be tracked through the card company's online banking service. This feature helps you stay within your budget limits, preventing debt accumulation and unnecessary expenses.
You can use your preferred credit card to pay your utility bill without concerns about extra charges. However, it's worth noting that some utility companies may impose a convenience fee when credit cards are used for bill payments. Unfortunately, some people switch to alternative payment methods to avoid these fees, unknowingly accumulating additional monthly charges. Consequently, settling dues with your credit card in one go may be the wiser choice.
Another advantage of using the best credit card for paying your utility bill is the option to set up automatic bill payments. This eliminates the need to remember various payment due dates, making it a time-saving and hassle-free way to manage multiple utility and insurance bills.
Many credit card companies offer rewards, cashback, or points for using their cards to pay bills. It's essential to keep an eye out for such deals, as they can help you save money and provide additional perks for your financial transactions.
When choosing the right credit card for you, be holistic. Don't just consider the card's rebate rate – also ask yourself questions like:
Can you meet the minimum monthly spend?
How likely are you to hit the rebate cap?
Does the card provide access to other retail perks and discounts?
For example, if you're splitting your expenses between cards and are unlikely to reach the minimum S$800 per month spend for the OCBC 365 Credit Card, you may be better off with the Standard Chartered Unlimited Cashback Credit Card, despite its lower cashback rates.
Similarly, the high rebate of up to 6% for the UOB One Card is only if you can spend S$2,000 on your card each month. This means you have to be prepared to spend a much higher amount each month to earn your cashback.
