Time flies. And because of COVID-19, this year feels like it flew by even faster. In less than two weeks, we will be bidding goodbye to 2021 and welcoming the new year. 

While we don’t have the opportunity to travel for an overseas New Year Eve experience, there are still plenty of interesting offline and online events that promise a wholesome (and social distancing compliant) time on New Year’s Eve.

Marina Bay Countdown 2022

This year’s countdown event at Marina Bay will take on a different light compared to previous years. As part of the authorities’ efforts to avoid crowding, there will NOT be any fireworks display at Marina Bay on New Year’s Eve.

However, do not let that deter you from heading here this year. Instead of fireworks, Marina Bay has exemplified our nation's identity as the City of Lights through striking light projections and performances.

Returning this year is its Shine a Light display. With over 60 light beams projected in a circular arrangement at The Promontory, this playful lighted performance is a commemoration of the strength and support of our frontline workers, group-up groups as well as charities.

Also, have our communal comradery expressed in a kaleidoscope of luminous colours with its Share the Moment display. Featuring local art pieces that alludes to Singapore's most uplifting moments, Share the Moment projects these radiant pieces on the exteriors of Fullerton hotel, Marina Bay Sands and the Merlion.

Fireworks in the heartlands

While fireworks won’t make an appearance at the Marina Bay, it will be brought to the heartlands. 

For now, there is no news on the exact location in the heartlands. But it is highly likely that the fireworks will happen at the same places from last year's fireworks display.
